Ford Ranger Performance Tuning & Software Solutions
You are interested in a power upgrade for your Ford Ranger 2.2 or 3.2. The first issue is that there are so much performance upgrades available on the market and the question is what to choose?
Let's have a look at the options:
Plug and Play Chip Performance Chip ECU Remap The plug and play chips, the ones that will simply connect on to the common rail pressure sensor, this will not work. Do not be fooled, there are some vehicles ending up with less power than standard. Some of these plug and play chips may also cause a noisy engine and an engine management light coming on with limp mode following. If you do decide to go for these units, go and get your Ranger on a dyno, do a run standard and then a run with the chip installed. You will see a little gain or none at all.
The performance chips available for the Ford Ranger 2.2 and 3.2 usually means cutting into wires. Again, if the main function will be to increase common rail pressure, this will not work and you will waste your money.
The only chip worth mentioning is the Unichip but WITH injector driver. So this is the Unichip option with basically 2 x chips in 1 setup. This will usually cost R8000-R10000.
ECU Remapping is the option we would suggest. At R4500 is the most economical way to upgrade the performance of your Ford Ranger 2.2 or 3.2. An ECU Remap, done correctly will always be the best way to upgrade performance. Think about it, when a manufacturer wants to increase the performance of an existing engine on an upcoming new facelift model or whatever the case might be, they modify the software, they do not add a chip to increase the power.
We custom tune each Ford Ranger 2.2 & 3.2 on our dyno. The procedure will usually take about 3-6hours. We will do a dyno before to measure the standard power on the wheels. During the before run we will also log the engine data. We will then design a tune that suits your vehicle's engine. We will do an after run and while doing so, record the engine data again to make sure the changes that are made are not too much or not too little. The dyno after run will also indicate the amount of wheel power added.
Because we do custom tuning on your Ford Ranger, we can add you any power you wish, for example, if you want only 10% 15% or 20% more power and not the full 30%, we can do so, no problem.
Ford Ranger Power Increase (ECU Remap) (No Hardware Changes)
*** Power is measured on the wheels, not on the flywheel.
Ford Ranger 2.2 88kw up to 70% more power, but more importantly, the torque issue is corrected.
ECU Remapping, also known as software upgrades, is widely regarded as the safer and more effective way to optimise engine performance—when done correctly. Unlike plug-and-play chips, remapping allows for...
Most companies in South Africa selling so-called performance chips, tuning boxes, plug-and-play chips, or performance modules do not tell you that these are simple electronic devices that intercept...
Let’s chat about plug-and-play systems—the ones that connect to the common rail pressure sensor. Usually, when you get in touch with these guys and start talking about dyno runs to prove gains, they’ll...
